XX years of Tenshinkan Dojo and First Suio Ryu Koden Budo Taikai in Warsaw

Last weekend we had a great pleasure to celebrate an unique anniversary: it has been 20 years since the date of official founding of Tenshinkan Dojo. On this occasion Tenshinkan organized koryu seminar and first Polish counterpart Suio Ryu Koden Budo Taikai held every year in Shimizu of Shizuoka prefecture, Japan. So far it was the largest seminar held in Poland and was attended by iaijutsu practitioners from Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Finland, Spain, Russia, Slovakia, Sweden and United Kingdom. Together with the teachers the number of participants exceeded 100 people!

To lead the seminar following teachers were invited from five schools and traditional teaching lines of iaijtusu:

  • Philippe Merlier sensei 6. dan iaido renshi – Muso Shinden Ryu
  • Krzysztof Górnicki sensei 6. dan iaido – Muso Shinden Ryu
  • Andy Watson sensei 6. dan iaido – Muso Shinden Ryu
  • Henry Schubert sensei 5. dan iaido – Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu
  • Jose Martinez Abarca 5. dan iaido – Suio Ryu Iai Kenpo

On Saturday, in the first day of seminar, training was divided into following groups: Seitei Iai, Muso Shinden Ryu, Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu, Tamiya Ryu oraz Suio Ryu Iai Kenpo. The whole day of training was a great dose of information for each participant. At the end of the day examination were held up to yondan (4th dan).

It is our pleasure to inform that all the Shodan and Nidan candidates passed their tests, as well as three of five Sandans and four of thirteen Yondans. Congratulations!

Warsaw Taikai

Sunday was the day of taikai and enbu. As later emphasized the judges, voting in the koryu taikai is extremely difficult but it allows both competitors and judges to obtain new skills and allows to learn about similarities in iai of different schools.

Closing speach was delivered by president of Polish Kendo Federation, Mr Wlodzimierz Malecki, who wished all the participants a lot of successes in further development on the way of iai. Below we would like to present the results of the taikai which took place in firve categories with the highest, Yondan/Godan, also took part in the judging:

Mudan
